about

Elizabeth Rodriguez was born in Havana, Cuba and is a classically trained violinist. Rodriquez was a Concert Master at the Youth Orchestra in Havana, and since moving to Canada in 2013 she has been pursuing her musical career as a singer and violinist for several bands like: Okàn; the Juno winning band of Jane Bunnett & Maqueque; and The Battle of Santiago; to name but a few.

Drummer/percussionist - Magdelys Savigne was born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba and is classical trained In Orchestral Percussion. She graduated with honours from University of Arts in Havana, Cuba. Savigne is a percussionist, vocalist, and composer with several bands from; Okàn; to Jane Bunnett & Maqueque; to Bill King's Rhythm Express; to The Battle of Santiago.

Bésame mucho, que tengo miedo a perderte después" means "Kiss me a lot, as I am afraid of losing you afterwards." "Bésame Mucho" is a song written in 1940 by Mexican musician songwriter Consuelo Velázquez. Regarding the words perderte después meaning "to lose you afterwards", a most profound phrase considering that Velázquez may have been only fifteen years old when she wrote the lyrics to this song. Bésame Mucho is one of the most famous boleros and is recognized as the most sung and recorded Mexican songs in the world. Rodriquez and Savigne give the classic a 7/4 makeover – with elements of jazz and Latin.

Rodriquez and company hit the refresh button and blend the swing of jazz, the classic Hot Club violin stylings of Stephane Grappelli, Cuban and Mexican rhythms, into music of great sophistication and style. Triology – moves from fusion jazz, to roots Mexican with jazz swing, to a delightful original penned by Rodriquez, rich in passion and harmonic invention.

It’s that marriage of voices – the ease at which both Rodriquez and Savigne can sing the most complex lines in simpatico and seamlessly traverse the landscape. There are moments of breathtaking intensity and resolve.

Recorded live in studio on October 14, 2016 at Inception Sound Studios in Toronto.
